They check the performance, foam, looks, whether it irritate skin or not like features of shampoo. Consumer testing often helps determine what these characteristics should be. Once the features of the shampoo are identified, a formula is created in the laboratory. The most important ingredients used in making are water, detergents, foam boosters, thickeners, conditioning agents, preservatives, modifiers, and special additives etc.

Water is a primary ingredient in the shampoo formulation. The percentage of water is 70-80%. Regular water is used in shampoo.

Fatty acids are used in shampoo. These are naturally occurring material found from plant and animal sources. These are used to make surfactants used in shampoos and extracted from soya bean, coconut oil.

Foam boosters

Alkanolamides is the material used to make the foam and bubbles in shampoo.

Sodium chloride, plant cellulose, and fatty acids are used to increase the shampoo thickness.

shampoos are made from water and organic compounds, so contamination of bacterias and other microbes is possible. Preservatives are added to prevent such bacterial growth. Most common preservatives are DMDM hydantoin and methylparaben.
